Financial Assistance

Merit-based scholarships are offered to qualified international applicants with outstanding academic achievement and test scores on the required entrance exams. These awards range from $10,000 to $25,000 per year and are renewable for up to four years. In some instances, additional help is provided through student loans and campus employment.

In addition, two full-tuition President’s International Student Scholarships are offered. These scholarships are awarded each year to two highly qualified international students in assessing their talents, interests and academic achievements. The President's scholarship is renewable for up to four years of study at Illinois Wesleyan University.

For international applicants seeking additional financial assistance, the CSS PROFILE is required for need-based consideration. The PROFILE provides a detailed analysis of an applicant's financial resources. Using this information, we can be “need sensitive” when considering ways to further assist our international students with Illinois Wesleyan University funded scholarships, loans and campus-employment opportunities.

The preferred deadline to submit the CSS PROFILE is April 1.

Illinois Wesleyan is a residential collegiate environment, with more than 75% of students living on campus. We believe that students learn, live and succeed best when they are proximate to one another and to campus facilities and personnel. Living and interacting with others who have different personal philosophies and who vary in nationality, race and religion are a critical part of each student's educational experience.

What Is Special?

Personal Attention

With our focus on academic excellence and small class sizes, Illinois Wesleyan attracts faculty who value the student-faculty relationship as an important element of undergraduate education.

Unlike most large universities, professors – not graduate students – will teach you. And cheer you on at your extra-curricular events!

Knowledge and Wisdom

At Illinois Wesleyan we believe that your education should be more than memorizing facts and figures.

Our goal is for you to learn to think critically and creatively, enabling you to better use the knowledge you gain for success in your life.

We want you to leave us fully educated not just narrowly trained, so that you'll be able to meet the challenges of a constantly changing world.

Pursuing Your Passions

Whether you're into Shakespeare, Einstein, Mozart, Cezanne, Margaret Mead, Florence Nightingale or Dow Jones, Illinois Wesleyan's unique liberal arts curriculum allows you to pursue multiple passions and interests.

We truly believe that learning is optimized when it stirs one's emotions and stretches one's boundaries.

Application Overview

There are two ways by which students may apply to Illinois Wesleyan University: Early Action and Regular Decision.

(Note: Applicants to the School of Theatre programs are not eligible for Early Action admission because auditions for these programs extend past the EA deadline. Theatre admission decisions are made after all audition dates have passed. The Admissions Office reserves spaces specifically for these programs so there is no competitive advantage or disadvantage selecting one audition date over another.)

Early Action

Illinois Wesleyan offers a non-binding Early Action admission program.

  • Students who apply Early Action with completed applications, including all components, by November 15th will be guaranteed a decision (admit, deny, or defer) by January 15th.

  • Early Action candidates who are deferred will be included with the Regular Decision applicant pool and receive notification on a rolling basis after January 15th.

  • Applicants who are deferred under Early Action to Regular Decision are guaranteed a final decision (admit, deny, or waitlist) by March 15th.

Regular Decision

Prospective students may also apply Regular Decision.

  • All students who complete Regular Decision applications, or any students not completing Early Action applications until after November 15th, will be notified on a rolling basis between January 15th and the first week of April.
